Symantec BE 2014 V-Ray vs. Veeam B&R v8
Hello,
since I would like to continue to use Veeam B&R on other locations as well, I really would like to know your thoughts, ideas or points, why Veeam B&R v8 is better than Symantec BE 2014 V-Ray Edition? I don't know, if this kind of discussion is allowed here, cause I really would like to collect arguments to justify the move from standard Symantec Backup Exec 2010, 2012, 2014 to Veeam B&R v8 instead of Symantec Backup Exec 2014 V-Ray Edition.
Thanks,
Didi7

Hi, Didi7. We don't do detailed bullet list comparisons for legal reasons, likewise we cannot provide them as a forum posts. As far as high-level points and advantages, please research this page > Switch to Veeam
We highly recommend that you try both tools in your environments and see which one works best for your needs.
And please do evaluate each feature you need very carefully, because you will find that the same "check box" can mean vastly different functionality. For example, a vendor may put a checkbox against a feature without noticing that it's missing certain critical capabilities that make huge difference. In fact, GRT for Active Directory is a perfect example, with Veeam providing unique yet critical features you cannot get from any other vendor.
Thanks!

Re: Symantec BE 2014 V-Ray vs. Veeam B&R v8
Hi Gostev,
that means, even other users are not allowed to post their experiences? I was looking for an independent comparison of both products, but was unable to find anything that's up-to-date. I thought users themselves could post their views on both products and fill the list, as they like.
I didn't expect any Veeam specialist to post here, which I personally would consider a wise decision anyway.
Moreoften, users themselves often tell the truth about products, if their experiences are summarized.
Regards,
Didi7

Re: Symantec BE 2014 V-Ray vs. Veeam B&R v8
No, I am only talking about Veeam employees participating in the discussion. Our users can certainly discuss whatever they want! Moreover, we will still be more than happy to talk about our own solution's features... we just cannot help you analyze other vendor's shortcomings and drawbacks, as we may accidentally make some false statements due to lack of knowledge (and some other legal reasons - we've already learned well that "everything you say may and will be used against you").
Just one hint from me: if you are really just looking to just create a list of Veeam differentiators over whatever legacy solution, then I recommend referring to our What's New documents for the past 4 years or so, and you will find that many of the features described there are still unique to Veeam. 4 years because that's how much some of those vendors are lagging behind... yes, it's hard to believe even for me, but we have released the Instant VM Recovery feature that you have already noted over 4 years, and 6 releases ago!

Hope this helps!
