Synthetic Backup

Post by kratos31 »

Hi

Could someone please clarify the synthetic backup for me?

We did our first backup on Friday 24th. Increments run Mon-Thurs will full synthetic on Friday.
My understanding is the synthetic backup does not communicate with the server in question and combines the last full backup with all the incrementals.
Is there an incremental backup performed on the Friday before the synthetic takes place? or is the synthetc full a day behind?
Hope that makes sense.

Thanks
Grant

Hello Grant,

If you're referring to Synthetic Fulls option, then you'r right, while creating a full synthetic backup we do not address VI to retrieve VM data.

Should more details be needed, please check out our User Guide (pages 12-13) and sticky F.A.Q. - Backup. Thanks.

No new data is added except for the current incremental job run as it is explained in the UG.
