Synthetic Full Backups
Hello,
Just confirming a few things. Originally I had not checked the enable synthetic full box. I only used Active Full backup on Saturday with the rest of the other days running incremental. Can I edit the existing job? I will be just running synthetic full on Saturday with the rest of the other days incremental. I have edited a test job and it looked fine.
Also, since I am switching to synthetic full, will I be able to just copy a full backup file (vbk) to another directory for archiving? Version 6.5 here.
Thanks in advance,
TS

Re: Synthetic Full Backups
Hello,
1. Yes, you can edit your existing job and switch it to run synthetic full backups instead of active fulls.
2. Yes, synthetic full backup is still a full backup, so feel free to archive it for DR purposes.
Thank you!

Though, please, be aware that running synthetic full doesn’t completely eliminate the need for performing active full backup. You still have to run it sometimes, once a month or two. Thanks.since I am switching to synthetic full

Interesting. I am confused now. I read the article many times now. At the conference, I was told that checking synthetic full, I don't have to check active.

Re: Synthetic Full Backups
Let's say I have this on rotation. The job runs nightly at 9:50 pm.
Sunday - Friday (incremental)
Saturday (synthetic full check)
Then, I have Active Full check for first Saturday of every month.
I am assuming on that first Saturday of the month, the synthetic full will not run, but the Active will takes its place?
Thanks again,
TS

Right, only active full will be triggered on these days.
