Test on immutable backup

Post by jmely »

Hello,

After testing a backup on an immutable repository I've tried to delete, on the Linux side, the files. For vbk file ok impossible to delete. But the I was able to delete the vbm file.
After deleting the vim file, I was still able to restore the full VM and also a single guets file. :D :o
But my question was the use of the vbm file.
I have not make incremental backup, the test was only on a Active Full.

The .vbm files are not locked, because backup metadata gets updated constantly. However, it does not affect backup chain recoverability, because backup files are self-sufficient and you can always import backups and perform restore operations even if .vbm file is not available. Thanks!

Hi,

I am also testing a Linux Immutable repository. I have found that I could not delete the files which have the immutable lock, however, I was able to trash the folder which contained the immutable files?

Is this expected, or have I misconfigured the folders?

Thanks

Hi Simon, that's definitely not expected - if you can confirm you were able to delete the folder containing immutable backups (not an empty one and with an active immutability period), then please contact technical support.
