Thoughts on per-VM backup: number of restore points on disk?
Hello,
With Veeam v9 and the ability to have "per-VM backup files", has there been given any thoughts on being able to set "restore points to keep on disk" per VM instead of per backup job?
Thanks.

Hello.
Do you mean the option to set different retention policy to every VM in a job?
Thanks!

Yes that is correct.
In v9 when the backup repository is set to keep "per-VM backup files" we have .vbk and .vbr files on disk for each VM (separate backup chain for every VM). Thoughts on taking this further and allowing different retention policy for every VM within the job now that there is a separate backup chain.
Thanks.

Looks like it can bring a confusion really fast. Why not to create several backup jobs in this case?

That is an option but if you have a lot of VMs and you are doing "backup to disk to tape" operations, it gets messy pretty quick having many jobs. Would be much more intuitive if it can be controlled per VM in a single B2D job.

Let`s see if there will be more similar requests. So far you are the first who asked for that option.
Thanks for the feedback!

Sounds good I have it setup in two jobs right now; one has a 7 day retention and another has a 14 day retention and it works; then I thought it would be a "nice to have" option to control this at per-VM level within a job.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I see your point, I just say that it can screw up the logic and user understanding easily.
