To get absolutely the fastest backup
Should I turn off compression and/or Deduplication?
My backups are running at 8-12MB/s and I need them to run much faster as VM's are taking DAYS to backup.

Hello Richard, could you please give us more details about your setup (backup mode, destination target, hardware etc.)?

DL360G5 ESX Servers - VM Datastores on NetApp NFS over dedicated Gigabit network.
Veeam backup server as a VM, using Network Mode (VA mode kept screwing up our environment), destination target on physical file server with 10TB MSA SATA array -server connected via LAN gigabit all the way through. MSA array can read/write very fast via tests done locally on the file server @approx 60MB/s read and 120MB/s writes - again these are local tests.

Re: To get absolutely the fastest backup
Network mode provides abysmal speed with NFS storage. Use Virtual Appliance mode instead, should be about 3x faster than you get today. But of course, it is unlikely that you will never be able to reach the speed with "proper" iSCSI/FC based storage. At least no one else managed that so far...
Virtual Appliance mode was fixed in 5.0.1
