Two vCenter Servers and Linked Mode
Hi,
Hopefully a simple question, but after a long search of the user guides and on the forum posts I can't seem to find an answer.
I'm looking at implementing replication from Primary site to a DR site. Both sites have their own vSphere 4.1 infrastructure, with a dedicated vCenter server on each site. Two questions:
- Is replication supported when the target environment is managed via a different vCenter server than the source virtual machine
- At the moment linked mode is not used between the two vCenter servers, but we plan to turn it on. If linked mode is turned on would this cause any problems for replication? Should it be turned on before replication is configured?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Steve

Yes, it is supported.kavanaghsteve wrote:- Is replication supported when the target environment is managed via a different vCenter server than the source virtual machine
No, it shouldn't cause any issues, as linked mode is fully supported.kavanaghsteve wrote:- At the moment linked mode is not used between the two vCenter servers, but we plan to turn it on. Re: Two vCenter Servers and Linked Mode
Great, thanks for the quick response.
Just to clarify (assume you may have a type on the response, but best to be sure!), I'm talking about vCenter linked mode (where multiple vCenter servers are 'joined' to become visible in a single vSphere client session) and not linked clones. Is linked mode supported?
Thanks,
Steve

Yes, sorry for that typo, I meant to say linked mode.
