Unable to restore 2012 Servers - Case # 01768899
Hi all,
We using Veeam V8 build 2084 and are having issues restoring 2012 VM's
The VM's will restore but will not boot properly, they either prompt winload.exe is missing or they get stuck in a automatic repair loop.
As a test I created 2 brand new VMs, installed all windows updates and backed the VMs up while it was running (Application aware enabled)
Brand new backup jobs have been created, along with trying full and rollbacks being use as restore points, I have also tried using instant recovery and full vm restore both to New and the original locations.
If the VM boots into automatic repair mode I can disable automatic repair but then the VM boot with the winload.exe is missing error.
I do have a call logged for this but I seem to be going round in circles with my testing.
Just wondering if anyone had any ideas about this at all?
Cheers

Hi foggy, thanks for the reply.
Yes all other OS' are fine.
The weird thing is the actual VMs still boot fine, its just when they are restored they dont.

Do they have any antivirus software installed?

Re: Unable to restore 2012 Servers - Case # 01768899
I have an update with this.
First i thought this was something to do with the VM being deployed from a template so i did the following:
Created a BRAND NEW vm with 2012 installed and joined it to the Domain.
Backed this up and tested the back up using instant recovery and this booted fine.
Cloned this VM to a template.
Deployed VM from the template (without using customization)
Powered on the VM (created from template to ensure it booted) this booted fine.
This VM was then backed up.
Tried instant restore on the VM which was deployed from the template and this booted fine.
At the moment the only thing I havent done which is different is run windows update, I am going to run this now and run a few more backups/restores and let you know my findings.
