Unofficial Veeam/Windows 2012 dedupe recommendations

Post by pizzim13 »

It sounds like the folks at Veeam have spent fair amount of time working with the new dedupe features of Windows 2012 and are excited with the results. With that work, is there any "unofficial" recommendations regarding the configuration of Windows dedupe or Veeam jobs that are written to a dedupe volume? Or, is setting the Veeam jobs to low compression and leaving 2012 dedupe on the defaults been the path taken?

Just like for any other dedupe storage:

Forward incremental backup mode
Veeam compression OFF or LOW
Veeam dedupe ON

As far as Windows 2012 dedupe settings, there is not many of those except actual dedupe process scheduling...

Yes. We have a brilliant explanation by Tom and a couple of other existing topics regarding this:

Dedup device for Veeam backups
Recommended settings when using a dedupe appliance

Please take a look.
