Can some one please explain the following

Specifically for Reverse Incremental: Figure A and B, how can figure A be considered an Inactive Chain when it has no Full grey'd out? ("Active" Full still in Chain) How can it be a candidate for offloading?

Hi,

For Fig A : When you define a capacity tier for SOBR, you can set an "operational restores window".
All backup files age out will be offload to capactiy tier. In the exemple, "operation restores windows" was set to 3 days.

For Fig B : You can have 2 full backups in a Reverse incremental chain, if you force an active full.

Figure A contradicts the comment "To transform an active backup chain into inactive, a new Active Full (or Synthetic Full) backup file must be created for such a chain." on the same page.

This comment isn't 100% correct for the Fig.A case, we should change the description a bit. The fact is that in case of reverse incremental chain, everything that is older than the full and two previous increments is always considered inactive part of the chain (and this doesn't depend on the operational restores window setting as Séb assumed).

Basically, we start offloading backup file to Capacity Tier as soon as both criteria are met:

- Backup files fall out from the specified operational restore window
- Backup files belong to the sealed (inactive) part of the backup chain - part of the chain that doesn't get transformed

In case of reversed incremental mode, the sealed (inactive) part of the chain is represented by all reverse increments besides the latest two. Which means they can be easily offloaded to Capacity Tier.
