Upgrade backup chain format
Folks,
For a few backups and backup copies in the "VMware" platform, I have the option to upgrade the backup chain format.
Is it safe to do that for all chains that have this option?
Kind regards,
PJ

Re: Upgrade backup chain format
Hi PJ
Yes, it's safe. And it may become mandatory if you want to upgrade to a future major versions of Veeam Backup & Replication.
Please see our user guide before upgrading the chains:
Backup: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
Backup Copy: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=120
Best,
Fabian

Re: Upgrade backup chain format
We have a few Legacy Backup Copy jobs, and as far as I can understand, it is not possible to upgrade those chains.
Is it still possible to upgrade the corresponding source backup chains? Or should that be avoided?

Re: Upgrade backup chain format
Hi Per Jonsson
The source chain must be upgraded first.
For the backup copy job please follow the steps in "Periodic Copy Mode".
You can also use a PowerShell Cmdlet to automatize the upgrade:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... -copy-mode
Please make sure that you have enough space for new full backups. FastClone will be used in case your backups are stored on one of our FastClone supported repositories.
Best,
Fabian
