Upgrade process feature request
Pretty easy to say that Veeam B&R is one of the (if not the) best upgrade processes in modern software. That said, with the introduction of the "run anywhere" console, some of that ease has gone bye-bye. I'd like to see the B&R upgrade tool recognize when managed servers have the Console (typically in remote locations for site-aware restores) and include that when applying updates to all of the other components during an upgrade...

Re: Upgrade process feature request
But our consoles auto-update themselves upon the first connection to the updated backup server anyway?

You have to download the installer from the primary (again) and wait for it to install. Sometimes that's time and bandwidth that you'd rather not spend. All upgrades performed at upgrade time.

Re: Upgrade process feature request
Since we're talking about upgrading consoles, which are normally installed on endpoints, we don't expect them all to be online at all times, which is why your suggested approach is not really suitable for upgrading this particular component. Running around trying to get every backup console endpoint up and connected to corporate network before upgrading is hardly doable... by the time you're done with turning on the last one, first ones will already be back asleep. Not to mention some endpoints may be totally unreachable e.g. in a backpack flying at 30000 feet etc.
And there is even bigger technical issue with what you are suggesting - normally, network connections cannot be established from a server to a client, it's the other way around only. Unlike other Veeam components, our consoles do not run a server component we could connect to remotely.

Re: Upgrade process feature request
This sounds like it's more specifically about when the console is installed on a server that already has other Veeam components, and if so then can the console be upgraded with those components

Re: Upgrade process feature request
With that, we will still need a solution for "normal" consoles running on endpoints not having any Veeam components (admin's workstation). But we do not want to dig and then maintain two different "tunnels" doing the same thing, so we go with the universal solution instead.
