Upgrade to Veeam Availability Suite v8 failed with SQL-error

Post by Portvin »

When I tried to upgrade to Veeam Availability Suite v8 from version 7.0.0.871, the upgrade failed, and ruined the 7 installation.
I had to install v7 again, and restore from configuration backup.

The error message was:

Failed to execute SQL scripts for database VeeamBackup.
ExecuteNonQuery failed for Database 'VeeamBackup'

Hi, yes I opened a case yesterday, and was told that this was a issue, I just wondered if anyone else have the same problem.
The first server I upgraded was succesfull, and is in production, the next one failed.

Same thing happened to me. Hoping to hear about a patch or workaround soon. My case was 00675154.

As far as I know, support is able to assist with editing database to workaround the issue. The issue will be addressed further down the road.

Support directed me to the following KB this morning: http://www.veeam.com/kb1953
I just finished rebooting the server and opened the console, which is a lot further than I got before.

I have the same error, it's already the second System now with this issue :-(

Unfortunately me not :-(

- I did a bare metal recovery of the Veeam Backup Server now.
- I uninstalled the V7 Enterprise Manager, just to make the Veeam installation less complex.
- I followed the KB http://www.veeam.com/kb1953, 4 records were cleanup up by the SQL script.
- I tried V8 Upgrade once more, unfortunately same issue with ruined V7 Installation :-(

What should I do now ? I don't like to do a new clean V8 Installation, particularly because of the filled up disk repositories and the tape media pools.

@Veeam Team:
Please work on your Setup routines soon, it's immpossible to ruin a Backup Server Setup, nearly every other Setup routines are able to do a tidy setup rollback :-(

Thank you foggy, I think you're right.

I tried to manually cleanup some DB entries with SQL Enterprise manager last 4 hours (e.g. rows in Tape.media_families without allocated mediums), but same result in ruined Veeam V7 Installation after V8 upgrade, I did a veeam backup Server bare metal recovery three times now :-(

I'll contact technical Support next week. This week I've got no time, the V7 Installation works again now.

Please provide the case ID once you open it, so we could track it for possible resolution in future.
