Upgrading to 12.3 and disabling MFA

Post by jcofin13 »

When upgrading from 12.2.0334 to the most recent version of 12.3 do you need to disable MFA first? I have it enabled on our user accounts (and disabled for certain service accounts). I cant find anything that says it should be disabled before upgrading but i thought i remember seeing something about needing to disable it for upgrades.

Can anyone confirm? Id like to get this instance updated and not have issues.

Thanks

Hi Jcofin

It's not required to disable MFA to upgrade the backup server, or it would be mentioned in our upgrade checklist or Release Notes.

But its recommended to upgrade a remote backup console under a service account with disabled MFA.
but i thought i remember seeing something about needing to disable it for upgrades.
Do you remember where? I tried the forum search but couldn't find such statement.

No i searched as well. I could swear though that we first enabled it there was a note in the documentation that stated to make sure and disable it prior to upgrades. I want to say it was in very early documentation about mfa right after veeam started supporting it. Maybe i was wrong. I did make a mental note of it and could swear i documented it that way as well for future upgrades but i haven't been able to locate that either :)

I was able able to get the upgrade done without disabling it so i guess im good. I did check prior that all the expected service accounts were explicitly excluded from mfa as well as had snapshots, backups, config backups, and db backups. I was able to update VEM, VO, and VBR with no issues.
