Use Veeam for NetApp CIFS snapshots?
Hi all,
We have an old netapp we need to decomission. It contains some data we need to save on another storage for a few months. I wonder if Veeam can help somehow here.
I've added the storage to Veeam and can indeed see all snapshots, including the VM's. I also see the NetApp CIFS snapshots, but cannot see any data in them, which of course makes sense.
Crazy longshot/stupind question: Anyone know if I can utilize Veeam to import this data some-magic-how?
Thanks

Re: Use Veeam for NetApp CIFS snapshots?
Hello,
Today I would go for robocopy.
In future there would be NAS backup with Veeam.
Today there is only one option for CIFS shares with Veeam. I do not recommend it because it does not scale (you did not write how big your share is): File-to-Tape backup
Best regards,
Hannes

Ok, thanks for clarifying this!
Not sure what happens with the snapshot integrity if we copy all snapshots off a NetApp (WAFL) file system to a Synology NAS. Will investingate

Re: Use Veeam for NetApp CIFS snapshots?
it will take up the full space of each snapshot
Oh well, you could also use NDMP if you have tape.

We've had a totally different yet similar problem... maybe you could do something similar.
Dirty Workaround:
- Spin up a temporary VM (datastore = wherever you have enough space).
- Copy all data to that VM (Robocopy, rsync, Veeam File Copy Job, whatever fits your case)
- Backup VM with Veeam
- decommission old system / delete original data /delete temporary VM
