Hi,
Please can you advise me? We are looking at deploying Veeam, but trying to select the best backup target appliance. Please can you clarify will the Veeam Linux hardened repository with the Veeam storage efficiency features and immutability options provide the equivalent functionality to the 3rd Party Backup storage appliances? We are particularly concerned about performance and security.
Kind regards
Andrew Rycroft

Re: Using Linux hardened repository instead of 3rd Part Backup appliance
I think the provided information is a bit general to make any suggestions - no details about the Hardened Repository, Storage Appliance, production data type, its amount and so on.
Also, it might be worth reaching your local Veeam System Engineer to get infrastructure recommendations.
Thanks!

Re: Using Linux hardened repository instead of 3rd Part Backup appliance
HI Andrew,
Could you please clarify what you mean by "the equivalent functionality"? Hardened repository protects backups from loss as a result of malware activity or unplanned user actions. I wouldn't expect any performance overhead with the hardened repository.
Thanks!

Hi Andrew,
Please take a look at the list of vendor's solutions. While not directly addressing the question about the recommended storage solution (this would require the proper sizing and metrics to be plugged into the equation), but it allows you to narrow down the search options. It is designed specifically for our customers to simplify the storage solution selection process.
