v6.1 Licensing
I can't seem find anything that clearly presents the licensing basis for B&R - particularly the Essentials packs.
In particular, the position w.r.t hosts holding replicas.
Many thanks

James, have you checked the sticky FAQ topic and the corresponding page on our web site?

Re: v6.1 Licensing
Yes, but the FAQ is, as far as I can see, the only place where reference to the replication hosts is made. Indeed the site page suggests otherwise:
Upgrades
Q: What do I do when my virtual environment grows beyond 6 sockets?
A: You have two upgrade options: Veeam Management Suite and Veeam Backup & Replication. Both options are offered for the difference in price between the product you’re upgrading from (Veeam Essentials) to the price of the product you’re upgrading to (either Veeam Management Suite or Veeam Backup & Replication).
The reply on another thread, pretty much blanket "you need 16 sockets", prompted me to doubt this. And also the presence of the failback seems to change the dynamic somewhat from v5.
It's unclear to me anyway.

Re: v6.1 Licensing
What doubts do you have regarding the licensing model? If the number of sockets exceeds 6, you cannot go with Essentials and have to pay for either suite or separate VBR. In both cases you pay only the price difference in case of upgrade. Failback does not affect the number of licences as only source hosts should be licensed.

Re: v6.1 Licensing
So do you mean "if the number of source sockets exceeds 6"? Surely with failback what was the destination is then the source? Why is none of this even mentioned in the various PDFs anyway?

Yes.J1mbo wrote:So do you mean "if the number of source sockets exceeds 6"?
By the source host the host where the backed up VM resides is meant. Unless you back up VMs from the target host, you do not need to lincense it. And failback is not a backup operation.J1mbo wrote:Surely with failback what was the destination is then the source?

Re: v6.1 Licensing
Thanks. I presume the double-negative is a typo though?

Migrate from Veeam Essentials
[merged]
Hi,
We are happy users of Veeam Essentials and we want to migrate from a VMWare Essentials Plus to other licencing (and more hypervisors).
As I understand the Veeam Essentials bundles is limited to 3 hosts backup.
Does someone could tell me what is the best way to backup 5 hosts ?
Thank you !

Veeam Essentials is not limited to 3 hosts anymore, you can use any number of hosts under the 6 socket limit with the Essentials license.
