V7R2 Replication proxy reconnect/resume timeout limit

Post by raymond.mui »

From KB1831, one of the new features of V7 R2 is:

"Added ability for source and target proxy servers to reconnect and resume replication when network connection between source and target site drops for a short period of time."

So, what is the maximum tolerate period of time? A minute? An hour?

Thanks

Hi, Raymond, we're talking here about 5 minute interval, as, VB&R will try to resume connection 30 times with 10 second delay. Both values are configurable via registry. So, if you want to change the default values, please, contact support team.

Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification. In most of the cases, 5 minutes should be sufficient. Would that Registry value be read only during the beginning of the job, or when a timeout occurs? If we change that value "during" a replication, would it be effective for the current jobs?

Thanks

The mentioned registry values are read at the moment the job starts.

Do these reconnection attempts show up anywhere in the job log? I'm having an issue with random 'timeout' failures during replication, and it doesn't seem like I'm getting the benefit of (30) 10sec retries. It errors out quickly.

"Error: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond"

Support requests 00486360 (open since December 04) and 00505776, both escalated.

Thanks for any help. I can't deploy my DR scheme until this is resolved.

I doubt that there are any indications of this activity. However, I will double check it with devs tomorrow. Thanks.

No, these are silent, "under the hood" retries. I presume they can be observed in the debug logs though.

Is it typical to use the debug logging? Nobody has suggested it yet for my cases.

Normally, this is the first thing you are requested to provide if the issue you are experiencing is not a known one.
