v9 Application Aware Image Processing - Oracle

Post by skrause »

So we run Application Aware Image processing on all of our Windows servers by default. Since we have a DBA that likes to deal with his SQL backups his way, we have the transaction log section set to "Copy Only". We upgraded to version 9 the other day and are getting warnings on our one server running Oracle (it is a vendor supported application which we have no direct input on) stating that it did not have permissions to do some Oracle related stuff.

I checked the application aware settings and it is set to Copy Only as our SQL boxes are.

Is there a way to use application aware with Oracle that is similar to how "copy only" works with SQL where there is no interaction with the databases?

Actually, the 'Copy only' parameter does affect Oracle as well, so logs are not touched. In your case, most likely, it was processing of the entire Oracle database that produced a warning (hard to say without the actual message). The fact is that Oracle processing was significantly improved in v9 to provide transactionally-consistent backup of Oracle servers. Provided you haven't specified corresponding credentials in the backup job, it could fail.

Here is the message:
2/18/2016 3:02:20 AM :: Failed to retrieve Oracle database (SID: CAMP) settings required to perform archived logs backup. Oracle error has occurred. ORA-01031: insufficient privileges

--tr:Failed to create oracle session.
--tr:Failed to create oracle session holder. SID: CAMP.
From the text it sounds like it is trying to do log processing which is why I was confused.

Yes, might be confusing. I'll check with devs regarding the phrasing.

Either update did not install properly, or you are having a different issue - so please open a support case.
