vCloud Director as Replication target?
Hi,
Would you consider adding support for the following scenario as it would be interesting for service providers.
I see more and more service providers locally who are either using vCloud Director or are in the process of implementing it (makes sense since it is free when signed up for VMware VSPP).
Quite a few service providers has asked me if it would be possible for them to replicate from customers vSphere hosts/clusters and then target vCloud Director.
Obviously vCloud Director it self can not be the target, but the underlying vSphere platform could.
I am thinking Veeam most likely could code interaction so VM's being replicated would be added into a vCloud Director vApp.
The use case here is DR as a Service and this way the service provider could easily handle both the startup order and provide customers easy access to VMs inside the vApp.
If you feel this is possible already, then I would love to hear more

Re: vCloud Director as Replication target?
Hi Rasmus,
no at the moment vCloud Director cannot be a target of any replication job.
Thanks for the feedback and for letting us know there is an interest in this feature.
Luca.

[MERGED] : vCloud integration
I'm using Veeam B&R Version 8 Patch 1 which as far as I can tell has no vCloud integration, please correct me if I'm wrong.
In the past my colleagues have integrated vCloud into our Veeam DR replications like so:
* Initial Veeam replication to DR vCenter Server.
* Disable Veeam replication
* Import vSphere VM into vCloud.
* Enable 'seeding' in Veeam replication job and point the replication to the newly created vCloud VM.
This raises a couple of questions for me though: When importing into vCloud you get a copy / move proceedure. Presumably move affects the UUID and copy does not. If I choose Move then point Veeam to this newly created VM, on the next Veeam replication will the UUID also be replicated from the source vSphere, potentially breaking the vCloud VM?
Otherwise if I choose copy to retain the UUID, are there any caveats?
Many thanks,
Jim

We do support vCloud, meaning we can backup VMs, vApps, linked clones, etc. successfully. vCloud isn't supported currently as a target for replication jobs, though.
Thanks.

Re: vCloud Director as Replication target?
Starting from Update 4, Cloud Connect Replication will support vCloud Director, meaning SP will be able to deploy vCloud Director at his end and provide its resources as replication target for his tenants. Thanks!
