Veeam 11 - VMware / VCenter folder cleanup
Our backups are configured to user folders as the source in VMware. I need to cleanup the folder structure in Veeam to match exactly what is in VMware and vice-versa. I will creating some new folders, moving VMs into those folders, and renaming other folders in vCenter. I will also be renaming the jobs in Veeam to match the folder names. Will Veeam create new full backup jobs for jobs that are renamed in Veeam? Will it create new full backups for VMs that are moved into new or renamed folders in vCenter?

Re: Veeam 11 - VMware / VCenter folder cleanup
Hello Lewis
Veeam tracks a VM over it's MoRefID. It's a unique ID in the vCenter or ESXI host database. MoRefID won't change when moving it to another VM folder. If the same job protects the same VM, the backup chain will be continued.
Renaming a backup job won't create a new full backup. Please be aware, the folder structure on the repository and log files will still use the old job name. It could make troubleshooting more complex.
Best,
Fabian
