Veeam 11 & Windows 2008 DC backup

Hello,

We are using the Veeam B&R 9.5 Community Edition to backup workloads from VMware 5.5 cluster and Windows Hyper-V 2016 standalone server and we are interested to move to the Veeam B&R Ver 11.
The workloads are including,
1) Oracle Linux (2.6.32-100.34.1.el6uek.x86_64) in VMware,
2) Windows 2003 Server with MailEnable 5.07 Mail Server. Very soon will be upgraded to Windows 2016 Server and MailEnable Ver 10. In Vmware.
3) Windows 2008 R2 Server as Domain Controller. In Windows 2016 Hyper-V.
4) Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 fully patched. In VMware.
5) Windows 10 Pro VM with MS SQL 2012 Express. In Windows 2016 Hyper-V

As per below link Veeam B&R Ver 11 is the last Veeam version which supports VMware 5.5, https://www.veeam.com/kb2443

Our old Backup software is the StorageCraft Ver 4.0.5 which backups the second Domain Controller and File Server (Windows 2008 R2 Server in VMware). We have tried many times to backup this VM via Veeam but we always get an error regarding VSS. StorageCraft can backup this VM successfully and it uses VSS also. I must mention here that StorageCraft runs on VM and not on the hypervisor.
If we procced with the purchase of Veeam could you provide assist to resolve the issue with Windows 2008 secondary Domain Controller VSS error?

Customers with an active maintenance contract will receive guaranteed support within the SLA times. For users of the community edition support is only on best effort. The forum itself cannot provide support for technical issues.

I must mention here that StorageCraft runs on VM and not on the hypervisor.

The Veeam backup server also needs to be installed in a VM or on a dedicated physical host. It is not supported to install Veeam Backup & Replication directly on the HyperV OS.

Hello Fabian,

We have installed the Veeam B&R on a dedicated physical server.
A StorageGraft agent runs in the Domain controller Machine and successfully backups the VM. when we tried to back it up with Veeam the NTDS writer found not running but after a while is back again.

I will read the articles that you sent me and let you know.
