[V12] Veeam 12 PG database location
Hello,
we are currently installing a new Veeam system. The OS disk is not very large (500 GB) and there is a dedicated RAID for Veeam (currently MSSQL) Database.
When we switch to V12 will it be possible to have the integrated Postgresql instance use the other drive?

Re: Veeam 12 PG database location
Hi Markus
As with MSSQL Server, you can install Or create a new PG database (manually) on any disk you want and then restore the configuration database to a database on that disk.
Upgrading to V12 will not migrate your veeam configuration database to PG. This is a manual process after the upgrade. Only new implementations of VBR are using PG as the default database.
Thanks
Fabian

Re: Veeam 12 PG database location
Hi,
I was able to migrate the vbr sql db to postgres within backup configuration restore (needed to setup a postgres instance, used the binaries within the ISO), but i could not find a way to do the same thing for the enterprise manager db, can anyone share is there is a way right now ?
regards

Re: Veeam 12 PG database location
There's a special command line tool with a telling name that included with V12. Be aware it only supports one-way migrations though, so there's no going back to SQL Server. The process will be documented in time for GA but I remember proofreading its built-in help and it was pretty self explanatory.
I would recommend against doing such migrations for existing installations at this time though, as at least initially they will be considered an experimental support feature. The current expectation is that any new deployments will use PostgreSQL while existing customers continue happily with their existing SQL Servers, not touching what's working until PostgreSQL integration goes through its teething issues so we can confidently recommend such migration to all customers. Plus there are some actual known issues with the process you have already successfully performed... as far as I understand, they may trigger depending on the size of the configuration database, if PostgreSQL decides it's time to run some optimization tasks immediately following the arrival of much new data.

Hello,
this is a LAB environment, so I'll have a look at this tool, is the tool installed with V12 or it is present on the ISO?
Can you please share more info thanks

Yes, it should be in the V12 installation folder, very sorry I can't provide the detailed info right now (writing this on the go) but from what I remember it should be an EXE with EM+Migration words in its name.

You will be able to use SQL, but you will need to either install SQL Express on the local machine or direct it to a SQL Server that is not the VBR one. The installer only has PostgreSQL now for installation.

No, they have removed the SQL installer from the ISO, so you need to download that separately and install it ahead of time.

Tip: Here you can migrate via Command Line. Example from the field:
Save the MS-SQL DB:
Restore the EM DB to the PostGres SQL instance:
After that, the VEEAM DB utility can be used to bend the DB over to the PostGres instance.
