Veeam 6.5 restore template issues

Post by maverick964_uk »

We have veeam 6.5 update3.

We try to recover a template and the restore process seems to miss out the part to convert the new VM to a template.

We see error "This operation is not supported" in vcenter.

Any ideas?

Do you run a Full VM restore operation? Do you have any errors in the restore session? If you browse the datastore, you're trying to restore VM template to, what is the extension of the VM config file? Vmx or Vmtx?

when restoring one template we see messages....

5 files to restore....
converting template....
restores files....

with the failed template, we just see this.....

5 files to restore....
restoring.... (NOTICE WE DONT SEE THE "CONVERTING TEMPLATE..." message before this.)

2 mins later....

registering restored VM
Restore job failed error: The operation is not supported on the object

So one template can recover however we did get issues early on with the "operation is not supported". It worked eventually.

The other template wont work at all !!

All are restores from FULL backup. and restoring VMX

Hi Mike,

Thank you for additional details. Have you tried using the restore VM files option? This would allow you to grab that vmxt file and try to register the template manually. As to the original problem, I would suggest contacting our technical team for further investigation as it is hard to say why template was not converted.

Thanks!
