What permissioons do thery need on the san is basic_edit enough ??

Hi, Koen.

If Veeam backup job fails to connect to the backed up VM via network to do "application aware image processing", it failovers to network-less engine via VMware Tools (VIX API). The VIX permissions can be found under:

Virtual machine > Interaction > Guest operating system management

Though, I don’t quite follow you on how VIX is related to 3par storage appliance. Thanks.

Few points mentioned in the corresponding User Guide (p.371) regarding backup proxy server rights:

• The VMware backup proxy must have read rights on the HP SAN volume with VM disks to be able to read VM data from the mounted HP SAN volume or volume snapshot.
• (For HP StoreServ SAN storage only) The backup proxy server must be added to the list of servers having access to the HP StoreServ SAN storage.

Nope. Assuming that it’s 5.1 vCenter that is being used, there should be a separate corresponding section called “Virtual Machine Interaction” with the privilege named either “Acquire guest control ticket” or “Guest operating system management by VIX”. So, kindly check.

General requirements include that the “user_edit” role should be assigned to the user. As to the exact rights, you might want to test them yourself, since we don’t have such document at hand. Thanks.

in vcenter 5.0 privilege named “Acquire guest control ticket” in vcenter 5.1 “Guest operating system management by VIX”
for the 3 par I use super (3par admin group) for the moment but I like to geve veeam lesser permissions on my storage system
