I'm running Veeam 6.5 on Server 2008 so I figure I'll build a new machine for it. Gostev, would you suggest server 2008R2 or 2012?
Is Veeam going to be at VMworld 2013 like last year? If so, see you there again! I just found out that I won one of the coveted break out sessions so I'll make sure I'll note how satisfied I've been with Veeam over the years!

Todd, you'll definitely want to install Veeam B&R on a Windows Server 2012 machine with Data Deduplication feature enabled to be able to restore files from Windows 2012 deduplicated volumes.

So if your file servers were on Windows 2012 and using de-duplication, you wouldn't be able to do item level restore for those VMs unless the Veeam Backup server is also running Win 2012? That makes sense I think, because the Veeam server wouldn't be able to read the de-dupe metadata on the volume otherwise right? Does that apply to just the Veeam Backup server or do your proxies need to be on Win 2012 as well?

Just the backup server itself as the volumes from the backup files are mounted to it during Windows Native File Level Restore.norelco wrote:Does that apply to just the Veeam Backup server or do your proxies need to be on Win 2012 as well?
