Veeam agent license
Hi Experts,
We installed veeam agents for our clients and we are scheduling an agent-based job. We have around 60 clients. Should each agent have a license or only applying a license in veeam server is enough?
We have purchased the below license.
Veeam Backup Essentials Universal /Subscription License Includes Enterprise Plus /Edition features. 3 Years Subscription License/Billing & Production (24/7) Support Licensed Unit – 5 Instances
Thanks!

Re: Veeam agent license
The license must be installed on a backup server, which will then license all agents it manages automatically. However, your current number of instances is not sufficient to cover 60 clients.
1 VUL instance allows to protect 1 Server or 3 Workstations.
Thanks!

Also, what do you mean by "our clients": PCs or 3rd party companies you're managing? As in the later case you have bought a wrong license: end-user licenses cannot be used by managed service providers.

What Anton is trying to say, from whom those workstations are originated: from your organization or from side ones (that are paying you for managed services - backup as a service)?
In the former case you will still need to buy a bigger license. In the latter case you will need to buy a different type of license - rental (that has its own weights for different workloads).
Thanks!

Re: Veeam agent license
Hi Veremin,
Sorry I miss understood that, the Workstations are from our organisations. And regarding what you mentioned. How does veeam know if the workstations are our own or from 3rd party companies?
For Example: I can have a veeam backup server and establish secure communication with workstations belonging to a 3rd party to take their backups (backup as a service).
Thanks!

Backup server will not know that, but be aware that such case will be considered as our licensing policy violation.

Hi Experts,
We have configured server-based backup jobs for our workstations. But the workstations are consuming a one instance license not 0.33 that it should consume.
What may be the issue?

Hi Lokesh
This is to expect, when you need features from the server edition to backup your workstations.
They now cost 1 license per workstation and not 1 license per 3 Workstation anymore.
Which license (workstation or server) a machine gets, depends on what type of job you create in this step.

Re: Veeam agent license
Follow up question on this thread - am I understanding correctly that the 3-1 license consumption is only valid for jobs created as "Managed by agent" and that jobs created as "Managed by backup server" will consume one license per workstation? Or does the 3-1 license apply to all workstation jobs? Thanks!

Re: Veeam agent license
Hi Greg,
License consumption depends on the operation mode you're running for the backup agent ( aka job type): workstation vs server. So the "3-1" license applies to all workstation jobs.
Thanks!
