Veeam and Failover Clustering and Microsoft Cluster Service

Post by jcmachadouga »

Hello,

I have a question. I have searched the forum and I see some posts about vRDM, Windows clustering, etc. They all say Clustering is not supported in Vmware, and because a backup job requires to take a snapshot, jobs fail.

We do have a MySQL cluster and veeam is not letting me back it up and throwing the error:

" Error: Virtual machine is configured to use a device that prevents the snapshot operation: Device '' is a SCSI controller engaged in bus-sharing.

but the interesting part is that MSCS is supported by VMWARE (http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-51/topic ... p-mscs.pdf)

So, there is no way I can backup a Microsoft Windows cluster running in vSphere?

Thanks a lot.

While the article you provided does indicate support for a box involved in MS clustering it states no where that this allows snapshot operations to be performed on the VM. By enabling bus-sharing on the VM this will disable the snapshot functionality on the VM. If you need further information see: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/micros ... Id=1006392
