Veeam B&R 11 & 12 share same proxy server
Can Veeam Backup and Replication 11 and 12 both share the same proxy agent?
Currently we have Veeam 11 server in production backing up vSphere VMs to HPE StorageOnce Catalyst via Fibre Channel
1 - Veeam 11 server VM
1 - Veeam 12 server VM.
1 - Veeam 11 proxy server - physical machine with Fibre Channel connections to vSphere and HPE StoreOnce Catalyst.
We want to migrate toward v12. Is it possible to have both v11 and v12 both connects to the same proxy server? When we tested this scenario in lab and added the v11 proxy server to v12, it automatically upgrades the proxy server to v12. After the ugprades, Veeam 11 could not connects to the proxy server any more.
Questions,
1. How do we transfer the backup job configurations from Veeam 11 to Veeam 12?
2. Is it possible to have both Veeam 11 server and Veeam 12 server utilize the proxy server simultaneously so that we can move and test few backup jobs at a time?

Re: Veeam B&R 11 & 12 share same proxy server
Hi Jimmy,
1. There is no option to transfer individual job configurations from one Veeam server to another. You should either do it manually or use PowerShell.
2. No, it is not possible. Furthermore, I would not recommend sharing the same proxy between two different Veeam B&R servers, even if they are running the same product version.
Thanks!

Hi PetrM,
Thanks for the quick response.
1. Are there scripts to convert existing jobs configuration to power shell?
2. The other option would to do it over network then? Is it possible to share the same HPE StoreOnce Catalyst store via FC and Network at the same time? Is it possible to share the same v11 repository with v12 repository?
Thanks for the quick response.

Re: Veeam B&R 11 & 12 share same proxy server
Hi Jimmy,
1. I don’t have any scripts for it, but I believe it's possible to write scripts based on the cmdlets provided in the user guide section mentioned above. Additionally, you may want to look at the REST API reference, examples 9 and 10 on this page are about the export and import of backup jobs.
2. I don’t recommend sharing any resources, such as proxies, repositories, or gateway servers, between different Veeam B&R servers.
Why do you have two different backup servers to manage the same infrastructure?
Thanks!

Hi Petrm,
Thank you for the quick reply.
We are trying to migrate from v11 to v12. We wants to explore all options and test everything works before slowly migrate jobs from v11 to v12. Putting on different stores requires more disk space means it won't utilize the same existing deduplication data on the appliance.

Re: Veeam B&R 11 & 12 share same proxy server
Hi Jimmy,
Got it. The common scenario is to migrate Veeam B&R to another server, but if you want to do it gradually, just keep the jobs disabled on the original backup server while you're testing them on the new server, and avoid sharing the backup infrastructure components between different servers.
Thanks!
