Veeam B&R 4.0 in a VM causing symmpi1
Hi,
I have 2 x DELL R710 , one running production VMs and the other one running a single WIN2k3 VM with Veeam in it who replicate the prod VMs to its own host (from the prod host to the backup host, who runs the Veeam win2k3 guest)
Often when the replication job starts, i get symmpi1 id9 error in event viewer of the Veeam guest and the guest becomes extremly slow. After replication job is done all comes back fine. The replication job replicate to a different datastore than where Veeam guest reside (local storage but different raid)
Sometimes the Veeam guest crash compleltly and reboot
Hosts are running ESX 4.0 update01, i had the error before update as well.
Going to try to upgrade R710 firmware / etc, but any ideas?
Other than that, replication are working very well (2minutes for 250gb vm incremental)
Thanks
Seb

Seb, what job mode are you using? Please note that ESX 4.0 Update 1 is not officially supported yet (still in testing), but I am not saying that this is what is causing the issue - because other customers did not report any issues with it so far.

Re: Veeam B&R 4.0 in a VM causing symmpi1
Hi,
I am using replication Backup mode: NBD with changed block tracking
For those who perhaps would happen to have same problem, i upgraded LSI drivers (http://www.lsi.com/storage_home/product ... N&remote=1) and it solved the problem, the guest is no more hanging or generating those symmpi1 id9 event.
Not sure if this is related to Dell HBA but i never had such problems on HP servers and it is not my first vsphere + veeam setup. Strange...
So far so good
By the way, once again, this product is awesome! -> 2009-11-24 15:55:38 2009-11-24 15:57:15 Success 3 GB/s 250,00 GB 1.5minute to sync 250gb
Thanks
Seb

Great, thank you very much for posting the resolution.
Good result, probably little changes there
