Veeam B&R Console and Backup Jobs

Veeam noob here!

Simple question here, but does the Veeam B&R application have to be up and running when my backup jobs are scheduled to run? This is regarding agent-based jobs that aren't leveraging the Veeam B&R as a proxy.
