Veeam Backup 3.1.1 Release

Post by Gostev »

Veeam Backup 3.1.1 is now available for download from our web-site. This update resolves a number of issues reported by customers on the previous versions. Please review the list of changes below and consider upgrading if any of these issues may potentially affect your Veeam Backup deployment.

New Features
• Added support for replication and remote backup over slow and unreliable links with moderate packet loss.

Resolved Issues
• .NET Framework bug affecting some non-English locales (confirmed to exist on Norwegian locale) results in sporadic corruption of backup files chain (missing VBK files, extra VRB files).
• Backup file repair after unsuccessful backup cycle fails if backup storage is low on free disk space.
• Network backup in service console agent mode may fail with the following error: “Failed to validate command "dd if="/vmfs/volumes/...”.
• Attempting to enable SSH connection to ESX host on Japanese locale fails with the following error: ["Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "VeeamSSH.strings.ja.resources" was correctly embedded or linked into assembly "Veeam.SSH" at compile time, or that all the satellite assemblies required are loadable and fully signed."].
• Veeam VSS processing fails on specific OS configurations with various “Access denied” errors while specified VSS account has suffient permissions.
• Veeam VSS processing fails on specific OS configurations with the following error: "The specified service does not exist as an installed service".
• Veeam VSS integration does not support guests with Datacenter Edition of Microsoft Windows 2003.

When can we expect a Veeam 4.0 beta or release?

Will Veeam Backup 4.0 support ESXi (3.5 or 4) as target for replication?

Thanks

Gostdev - its would be great if you guys can remember to update your release notes on the main site. We use that to determine if new updates have been out. It wasnt until i came to the forums to check in that i noticed this 3.1.1 release :)

This because it's an actual limitation with ESXi right?

Hi Kyle, actually release notes document on the web-site is always updated at the same time whenever new build is uploaded. I can see that there are correct release notes files in the Veeam Backup Download area, but looks like the link from the product's page leads to the old release notes (apparently web folks missed that one). We will get it fixed.

Yes, you can say that too... our replication engine was based on service console agent, and service console is not available in ESXi, so our approach is not portable for ESXi. So we are working on the new replication engine now to allow for supporting ESXi.

Curious when you will be supporting windows 2008R2 aka windows 7?

FYI - Windows 2008 SP2 is NOT = 2008R2. Some of your support folks may have gotten confused!

Hello Andy, we are working on adding support for W2008R2 and W7 right now, and should have new Backup version supporting these OS out before they hit the shelves (Oct 22nd). However, we also somewhat dependand on VMware adding support for these OS in VMware Tools, so hopefully this will happen before Oct 22 as well.

Um, the release date for 2008 R2 is Sept 14th (for retail). Already out for MSDN and Volume Licensing.

Hi Bill, this seems to be slight change of original plans from Microsoft. Previously, Windows 2008 R2 retail release was planned for October 22nd, and we have aligned our release cycle correspondingly. You can still find old date in some web pages, for instance here.

Wikipedia? C'mon Gostev...;-) I was merely making you aware that you will have some people waiting with that old date.

Yep, we are a MS partner and in the VLP so we got our copies 8/17. I didnt expect much of a improvement but this is one heck of a good release so far.. reminds me of when we jumped ship from nt4 to win2k!

I'm talking about being able to install veeam backup onto a windows 2008 r2 server - do I need to wait for 4.0?

Yes, installation on Windows 2008 R2 will be supported starting from Veeam Backup 4.0.

I agree, these are great releases... I spent almost 6 years in Windows Enterprise Management software vendor before I joined Veeam and been following very closely to Windows technologies - also really impressed with some of the new features.
