Veeam Backup Copy to USB from remote Repository
Dear Members,
we have the following infrastructure:
- One Veeam Backup Server running in our Datacenter (V10)
- One Veeam Backup Server running in our Office (V10)
- VMware Infrastructure in Datacenter
Veeam Jobs:
- Backup Job local in Datacenter
- Backup Copy Job from Datacenter to remote Office over WAN
- Backup Copy Job to USB (rotated Drives)
Problem:
- once a week the USB drive changed
- the Copy Jobs resyncs all data over WAN, takes two to three day at the moment
Solution???
- Is it possible to use the already existing Copy Job files as a source (seed) for the usb copy job?
- what I want is Copy from datacenter to remote office to usb
or any other / better idea?
- a filecopy of the copy job files is not the best solution
Thanks

Unfortunately, you cannot create a backup copy job from a backup copy job. Thanks!

Re: Veeam Backup Copy to USB from remote Repository
Am I getting this right: there is one local backup job that gets copied to remote site by two backup copy jobs (one pointed to rotated USB repository, another - to simple repository)? Thanks!

Hello,
@tk_tenit Why do you need to copy the same data twice on the remote site? Basically, a single backup copy job already allows you to follow 3-2-1 rule. Another option might be to use USB on the local site instead to avoid full resync when drive is rotated.
Thanks!

Re: Veeam Backup Copy to USB from remote Repository
@veremin thats right, one is pointed to a physical Backup Server with local storage, the other job to the usb drive
@PetrM your right, 3-2-1 rule can be accomplished, but by our compliance rule we need to have another copy outside the company. The other reason is for long term achives.
The option to do it on the local site is not possible, because this is our datacenter which is far away and so we have no access on daily bases.

Re: Veeam Backup Copy to USB from remote Repository
With the given scenario, I don't think we can propose anything besides two independent copy jobs that will re-sync from time to time. Thanks!

Agree with Vladimir, the only workaround might be to use File Copy job on the remote site.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Veeam Backup Copy to USB from remote Repository
There may not be a way to do this directly with Veeam, but the backup files are just regular files. You can use many other methods to copy these files to a disk. Robocopy and powershell for example.
I would also presume that your datacenter is some kind of co-location site. These places generally have 2-3 people on hand at all times and offer services for swapping backup media at an additional charge.
