Hi guys,
We are looking at backing up to a remote Data Domain target using VEEAM backup. Do he need to use a local target first then replicate from there to Data Domain or can we go straight to Data Domain?
Thanks,
Pat

Re: VEEAM backup + data domain
Patrick, you can go directly to Data Domain, however the best practice is having a faster storage for local backups prior to that.

Thanks Alexander,
Would that still be the case if we use DD boost?

Yes, this is a common recommendation for any setup, as described in the mentioned reference architecture.

Re: VEEAM backup + data domain
Hi Pat, I would suggest you have a Veeam proxy at the remote site, configured as a gateway server to the Data Domain rather than pulling data over the WAN from the Data Domain to an off-site Veeam proxy.
We use Data Domains exclusively for backup storage with DDBoost storage units as repositories. Two datacenters with DD4x00s, Four remote sites with DD2x00s.
