Veeam Backup data to online store

Post by btniko »

Hi -

What is optional configuration for using Veeam with online storage?

Im using Veeam Backup 6.5 and store data to a local Synology NAS. Im using Incremental backup job.
This gives me a full backup file (large size), and then incremental changes (small size).
But every new job still make changes to the full backup file as well as creating incremental files. So when sync my NAS to a online NAS, it needs to transfer full backup file every time, as it is changed.

Hos can I setup Veeam so that it is not making changes to full backup file, only the incremental file? Seems the forever incremental still channges the full backup file.

Kind r

Bjørn.

Hi Bjørn,

Forward incremental backup mode does not modify previous VBK file. Do you have "Enable synthetic full" checkbox enabled? Is this the file (synthetic full) you're trying to sync?

Thanks!

Yes I have the "Enable Syntetic full" enabled. Is a popup box says syntetic full or active full must be enabled.
Im trying to avoid Veeam making changes to the large full. I belive it is the syntetic full. What do you recommend?

Yes, it is highly recommended to run either synthetic of active full at least once a week. Every this run your VBK file will be modified, however during incremental job passes this file will stay untouched. Just schedule full backup resync once a week and you should be fine.

Sorry, I didnt understand your last post.

Should I run Active Full Backup once a week AND Syntetic Full once a week, in the Incremental Backup mode?

Either of options (doesn't matter), as both will produce new full backup file.

Yes I see. Should a new full backup be produced once a week or can I set it to once a month or even less?
I need it as feew as possible to avoid syncing the large full backup online so often.
