Veeam Backup Integration with SAN based mirroring

Hi,

I wonder if someone can help. We are setting up SAN based replication using Global mirroring from our primary to our DR site. My plan was to install the Veeam backup server at the DR site and backup the replica VMs. My concern is that the mirrored volumes will be Read Only so I assume that the Veeam backup snapshots won't work? Can these be redirected to local storage?

I can't image this is a unique scenario so wondered what others are doing?

hi Simon,
Veeam does not do direct snapshots on the storage, it relies on VMware (single ESXi or vCenter) to do this. You will have a VMware system in place on the DR site to do this and also to expose datastores to Veeam server.

Thanks for your reply. We will have SRM 5 in place, so just to clarify as long as the VM's are registed in the vCenter on the DR site then Veeam will have no problems backing them up?

Never did a SRM5 + Veeam integration, but I will say yes based on my knowledge.
It would be interesting to listen to your tests when completed.
