Veeam backup of Oracle, SAP on Oracle

Hi,

just to be sure if you could please confirm my knowledge about backup for Oracle and SAP on Oracle.
Oracle DB there are 2 possibilities how to backup:
1. Veeam plugin for Oracle RMAN - do you know if its Oracle-certified?
2. Image based backup with Veeam - do you know if its Oracle-certified?

SAP app. running on Oracle DB:
1. Veeam plugin for SAP on Oracle - I found that this method is a SAP-certified backup tool
- you can use for backup only BR*Tools but you can also change the parameter in BR*Tools and use RMAN for backup

2. there is no other possibility how to backup SAP app. on Oracle or to use image based backup for it

1. well, actually there is no real certification from Oracle side. It's just a list of vendors that joined the Oracle Backup Solutions Program. Being on that list I linked is what most people understand as "certified"
2. "start backup" "end backup" is supported by Oracle (I oversimplified here)

SAP on Oracle
1. correct. The Veeam Plug-in for SAP on Oracle is the way if you like everything "certified"
2. with the plugin, there are three ways

a) SAP on Oracle backup „util_file_online“
Simple
SAP certified
Oracle ASM not supported
util_file_online and util_file supported

b) SAP on Oracle backup „rman_disk“
Medium Complex
Support Oracle ASM
Best for RAC
Cannot be certified (no BACKINT) but SAP supported with RMAN
RMAN plug-in will configure RMAN
Customer needs to adjust the INIT SAP profile of BR*tools manually
Need additional file backup mandatory


c) SAP on Oracle backup „rman_util“
Best of both worlds
Very complex
Certified BACKINT
Data integrity processing by RMAN
Both Plug-ins will configure RMAN and BR*tools SAP INIT profile
Needs manual adjustment to enable rman_util processing

If a customer has such a system, I cannot imagine that going for image-based backup is an option.

thank you for the detailed info.
Yes, a customer is doing now oracle backup with image level backup via Veeam with oracle credentials (but he is doing also backup via RMAN - not Veeam plugin for oracle) and he like it, so he asked also if there is a possibility to do a image level backup also for the systems where SAP app. is running on oracle DB.

I will forward it to customer.
