Veeam Backup&replica ServerV6 - placed at offsite or onsite?

Post by nags_lucas »

hi there:
What is the best option to place the Veeam Backup Server, offsite or onsite. I intend to backup from Source to Target (remote site), i know both sites should have proxy to increase the transfer rate but for Veeam backup server, we should placed it at source or target? what is the best practice!

I tried to find the answer from this forum but not success, hope somebody can help!

Thank you!

Hi, it does not matter, since the data never goes through the Veeam server with the proxy architecture.

Hi Gostev,

In order to take full advantage of the failover functionality (including Re-IP) and subsequent failback, doesn't that mean there has to be a VEEAM Backup Server installed at the remote site with the applicable replication job configured there? Otherwise, how else could I initiate a failover if my production site is completely down?

Thanks

Hi Mazen, If you want to use all these features then you should either place Veeam B&R server offsite or simply protect it (mostly its configuration database). Thanks!
