Hello all,
Can you please comment on the following deploying solution:
I want to use the replication and the backup features of Veeam to replicate
from the production to the DR. I would also like to backup the production in the DR
with a backup copy job to the DR repository and then to tape.
I have 3 ESX servers (5.5) in my production site (+ VC 5.5) and a single ESX server in my DR site.
I am planing to buy Veeam Essentials.
I have a single tape library (LTO 4) and a physical server which will be a tape proxy.
The two currently resides in the DR but can be moved to production site if needed.
My storage does not support SAN so the the backup will be done as Hot Add or NBD.
This is how I plan to deploy the servers:
Production site:
• Veeam Backup Server + SQL Express (on a VM)
• Backup Proxy (on the above machine)
• Repository
DR:
• Backup Proxy (on a VM)
• Repository
• Tape Proxy (physical server)
Any thoughts, ideas, pros and cons will be greatly appropriated.
Thanks in advance,
Ron.

Re: Veeam Backup & Replication deployment
The plan look solid: backup jobs to primary repository (fast restore), backup copy jobs to DR (long term in a different site), tape jobs at DR that use backup copy jobs as their source (copy on different media), replication jobs to DR (lowest RPO/RTO).
Also, you might want to install VB&R server in DR site and orchestrate everything from it, especially, replication activity. The idea is simple - if anything happens with production site, the failover/failback operations can be easily started from the remote site.
Thanks.
