What is recommended to use as backup repository - server Dell R540 or storage Dell EMC NX3240?
Can someone help with advantages and disadvantages of both?

Too many variables in the case, as what is advantage for one might be a disadvantage for another.
- Having a fact that both run Windows, both can be fit with identical 10GB controllers, filled with identical disks, set identical RAID level and present to Veeam using same protocol of choice - you should not see much difference in performance between those.
- Scalability is pretty close from the first glance, max 168TB vs 192TB.
- NX is meant for storage cases use, so might have an easier management.
- Price...well, as always, up to you. NX starting price is x3 of R =)
- From our side there will be no difference in feature set available using any.
My bet would be to ask same question on Dell forums, where hardware experts can give an in depth difference.

NX3240 is a R740xd with Windows Storage Server on board.
