Veeam Backupstrategy - Fileserver

Post by adrian138 »

Hi,

I am not sure if we run the right Veeam Backupstragy for our Fileservers.

Fileserverdata: 2+TB
VmWare

- Backup to Disk every Day (Retention 8x)
- Backup Copy to Backupsite every Day (Continous) (Retention 2), Keep weekly for 2weeks and Keep monthly for 2 months
- Backup to Tape every Week, Month, Year

The Backupcopyjobs wich creates the Syntheticfulls on Backupsite takes about 20hours.

Personally, i would like to copy the Full Backupfile from Site1 to Backupsite 1:1.

Thanks for your Feedback, Adrian

Hi Adrian, overall the strategy looks good and complies with the 3-2-1 rule, but whether it is 'right' or not is a question of your RPO/RTO requirements.

Hi, Thanks for your Feedback.

For a small business, are there reasonable RPO/RTO Times you can recommend.

We have a RPO of 12hours and RTO dependence if a Backup Restore is from Disk or Tape.

Thanks for your help, Adrian

We cannot recommend something, cause it solely depends on your business needs and requirements: how much data you can lose and tolerate after DR hits and how fast data should be recovered. Thanks!
