Veeam Config Restore with 2FA Enabled

Post by pmichelli »

I think I need to rebuild my Veeam 12.1 instance on a new host and I want to restore the configuration backup. What happens if we have 2FA enabled on the admin account? Does that still work or will it be reset and have to be reconfigured?

Am I correct in understanding the config restore will bring everything over, current jobs, backup repositories, managed servers, vCenter instances etc ? (Yes I have encryption set on the job so it will export passwords)

Hi LickABrick

Thank you for the reply. I think this is what I was looking for. So I should disable MFA on the user accounts, take the backup, restore on new host then re-enable MFA.

I migrated from MSSQL to Postgres when we went from V11 to V12. I assume there will be no problems if I deploy a new Veeam instance on a new server using Postgres and then perform the config DB restore?

Hi, no there shouldn't be any issues. If you run the latest V12.1 you don't need to disable MFA on the server you are taking the config backup from, as stated in the other post:
MFA gets disabled during the configuration restore and must be manually re-enabled (just enable the checkbox in users/roles) by the backup administrator.
