Veeam exchange item restore Outlook requirement

Post by kjstech »

I notice on our veeam server if I want to export a users folder to a pst file I get an error, 64-bit version of Microsoft Outlook 2010 or 2013 is not installed. Of course not, its a server, were not paying for an office licence for a server.

But can I go to my portal.office.com site from the server and install Office 365 and use my account (you can install it on 5 devices and I'm not up to 5 yet). IT and some management do user O365 whereas regular users usally get whatever Home and Buisness version comes with the Dell workstation they sit at.

Here is the question, O365 will download Office 2016. Veeam dialog box has no mention of 2016, so will it work? Also 64-bit it claims. I'm pretty sure on my workstation (and all other workstations) Office is 32-bit.

Hi Keith, 2016 is also supported and normally it should work. Have a look at our userguide in regards to the export part https://helpcenter.veeam.com/backup/exp ... rting.html

Yes, that's correct, as Veeam Explorers support 64-bit Office only.

Its a pity, that 32bit Office is not supported.
Microsoft and most Vendors recommend to use 32bit Office.
We cant do a mix installation just for using Veeam sometimes.

https://technet.microsoft.com/de-de/lib ... 81792.aspx

Please add support for 32 bit or add Support for DLL Import only.

This is not true:
Microsoft recommends to use 64-bit Office, and installs it by default.

We're not able to support legacy 32-bit Office version for technical reasons.

Talking about Office 2016 its 32 which is default:
"
I know which version I want. How do I install it?
The 32-bit version of Office is automatically installed unless you explicitly select the 64-bit version before beginning the installation process.
