I got a request to restore a mailbox on our Exchange 2010 and the user isn't sure of the restore date. It’s a shared mailbox so one of the users has deleted all items and now another user discovered it. In the request, they specify that they need a restore of the latest backup before deletion occurred. That’s no fun task to perform with current Exchange Application Item Recovery… :(

Since I didn’t get a reply on my request for Veeam Explorer for Exchange when beta program was open my only option now is 1-3 days of work to get the Exchange server up and running in virtual lab, check if the emails are present, if not, pick an earlier date, wait for the lab, check again and so on… For some reason our Virtual lab is extremely slow so to get an Exchange environment up and running just once is a painful experience.

Veeam guys… Please do me the favour and provide me a link for Veeam Explorer for Exchange. I emailed to support@veeam.com to request the beta-link, I emailed my sales rep (unsure if she’s still working at veeam since I haven’t had contact with her since 2010) but no reply from either of them.

So this is my final option before I need to start setting up a virtual lab..

zak2011: Thanks but your link only gets me to the site "Thank you for interest in Veeam Explorer for Exchange. We’ve logged your request to be included in the beta and will notify you by email if/when we’re able to extend an invitation."

Foggy: I opened a call with support but they redirected me to sales@veeam.com. I emailed sales@veeam.com yesterday but still no reply so I guess virtual lab is my only option since the user needs the restored shared mailbox at latest tomorrow morning. :(

mm.. Are you sure? That's not a correct Veeam support case ID. Should be 7-digit number, something like 5144138.

Hi Guys,

Got a bit of an unusual issue with Exchange Explorer - Have installed it, and copied ese.dll onto C: of the Veeam server. Under options, trying to point the software to ese.dll, However I get the message "ese.dll file not found in the specified location".

I thought it may be permission to the file that it couldn't see it there, however everyone now has full control of the dll file, but still getting the same error message.

Image

Hoping someone has an answer to this - I'm sure it's something fairly straight forward. We're currently looking at moving to Veeam, so I'm trialling it, and having the ability to use the Exchange Explorer features would be essential for us.

TIA.

Jack, are you using ese.dll from Exchange 2010? Veeam Explorer for Exchange does not support earlier versions.

Veeam Explorer for Exchange will be available in the upcoming Veeam B&R v6.5. Anyway, you can ask support for assistance in implementing the virtual lab.

There is no point, as that beta code is VERY old by now. We are simply not interested in anyone running and submitting feedback on this old code. We have the private 6.5 beta going right now, this has much newer Veeam Explorer for Exchange build with additional functionality not available in the beta code (such as restore directly back into the production mailbox).

It would have be very nice to have this feature in 6.5 without purchasing the Enterprise version, the basic one is Free, and really would really drive sales of standard version were it to be included. (Most of my SMB customers do not require Enterprise features, but restore to original location would be awesome.)

SMB customers can use Send To functionality to send the restored items back to the users, this one is included in the Standard Edition.
Restore to original location is and has always been available in Enterprise Edition only. Think 1-Click FLR, and all existing U-AIR wizards.

So you've "started looking at Microsoft Exchange 2013 in regards to Veeam Explorer for Exchange support."

Is there any more information?

Not yet, except that it certainly does not work with Exchange 2013 out of box, so the new VEX release will be needed.

I had similar BSOD issues on a newly built Veeam 6.5 server when using Exchange Explorer and found that the Trend Micro Worry-Free Business Security software installed was causing it.

Greetings,

I was also getting a BSoD running the Veeam Explorer for Exchange. Great tip on Trend Micro. It was indeed the cause of the crash.

Thanks!
