Veeam Gateway on Linux to communicate with HPE Storeonce

Post by ARycroft »

Hi,

We are rolling out Veeam to backup an Oracle environment at a client running Oracle databases, on the Oracle Linux operating system with Veeam RMAN plugin. The backup target is a fibrechannel based Storeonce.

We would like to install a gateway on the oracle Linux box to have direct communication to the Storeonce and not go across the network, but we have found the following comment that with Veeam 11 it is restricted to MS Windows:-

The HPE StoreOnce storage cannot host Veeam Data Mover. For this reason, to communicate with the HPE StoreOnce storage, you need to deploy a gateway server. Veeam Backup & Replication will automatically deploy Veeam Data Mover on this gateway server. For more information, see Gateway Server. For communicating with the HPE StoreOnce storage appliances, the gateway server must run a 64-bit Microsoft Windows version.

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backu ... ml?ver=110

Please can you advise if support for the data mover on Linux is on the roadmap?

Is it advisable to host a gateway server on the same server as the DB server, or will it add too much load?

Hello,
correct, the gateway server role for StoreOnce catalyst must be Windows (that should answer question 2).

We count your feature request +1 đź‘Ť We cannot provide a time line when that will happen (for sure not 2022)

Best regards,
Hannes

Hannes,

Do you have any new about this.
As we are ditching our windows based Veeam servers we are facing that issue right now.

Thanks.

Feature Request - Assigning the role of a gateway server for Data Domain to Linux Proxy

Post by miyu.masuda »

I would like to assign the role of a gateway server for Data Domain to Linux Proxy, Is there a future where this is implemented?
(I want to get away from Windows. I have been longing to do this for a long time.)
More than that, I would like to see the VMware Backup Proxy become an appliance, but is that possible?

Hi miyu,

I've merged your post with an existing topic as it's about Linux proxies in general with deduplicating appliances; thank you for the request, consider the vote counted. No news to share still, but we are aware of this request.
