I`m configuring Veeam Search. But when I add a server to the Enterprise manager this error message pops-up?
"connection to the veeam indexing service is not available"
There is no service calling "Veeam Indexing Service". Do I miss something. Hope someone could help me with this
Maarten, I believe that the message is referring to Veeam Backup Catalog service (just using the wrong obsolete name) and would first check whether this service is running on the backup server. Thanks.
thanks for your reply. I have checked if the Veeam Backup Catalog service is running. There where no problems with that?
All Veeam software are running on the same server
Veeam Backup
Veeam backup Enterprise manager
Veeam Search (including Microsoft Search server 2010 Express SP1)
I also rebooted the server. But that didn`t bring any luck.
Ok, I've talked to devs, seems that the issue is in connection to the Search Server itself. On adding the Search Server to Enterprise Manager, the MOSS Integration Service is requested through the Veeam Backup Catalog service. Request to the integration service cannot be performed for some reason and this is reported back to Enterprise Manager, which erroneously treats it as a Veeam Backup Catalog service connection issue.
Make sure that no firewall is blocking the connection between backup server and the Search server and feel free to contact our technical team with full logs for assistance in investigation.
BTW - could you please tell me why you've decided to proceed with Microsoft Search Server installation? Be aware that Microsoft Search Server is an optional component, you do not need it for browsing and searching functionality which is also provided natively.
I would like to see how it’s working. I know enterprise manager brings a lot (also without Search server). If customers ask for this solution then it’s nice to know how it works . Especially customer who has Sharepoint functionality.
But is this a known problem about the search component? Because you have discussed it with the dev team?

Not to hijack this thread but this came as a surprise since I thought that the Search Server was required. Wasn't that the case previously? I have now found the notice in the user guide stating the same as you write which I wish I had found when I installed our new Veeam B&R server.
Can I "undo" the Search Server integration just by uninstalling it and removing the Search Server from Enterprise Manager? Will I then still be able to search indexed backups?

There are no known issues around the search component. It's better to take a look at the log files to see why the request to the integration service cannot be performed, so please contact our support team for assistance with this.
Foggy was referring to the misleading error message that was displayed on your screenshot, this is a known issue.
Yes, it was, but v6 doesn't have this requirement any more.

installed the Backup Enterprise Manager, we got two backup servers. When I try to add a backup server (tried both), I get a message saying
"Connection to "Veeam MOSS Integration Service" is not available."
- Backup Catalog service is running at the backup server.
- Disabled Windows firewall.
Ok, but do you have Veeam MOSS Integration Service installed?
On top of that, can you please tell me the reason for using Microsoft Search Server? I believe you know that you can do files search without installing this component at all.
Odd... I reinstalled Backup Enterprise Manager and now it works.
Only thing changed: I updated the Backup Servers. Don't know why, but version number says 6.5.0.133 for backup servers, before it was 6.5.0.109. Didn't notice that there was a new build?
No, I haven't wasn't sure about whether the patch is implemented in the latest download or not. Would be nice if the build is displayed before downloading the package...
Are you trying to install MS Search Server? Do you know that this component is optional as you can use built-in search engine without losing any capabilities?
