Veeam Install Remnants Left on Server?

Post by GenDev »

We have a server that seems to have some remnants left on it that I'm not exactly sure if they are needed. It is a MS Server 2019 Hyper-V host that does have VMs that are backed up to repository. The host OS itself is also backed up with Veeam Agent.

This is what I've found:

* Veeam Backup vPower NFS - v9.5.0.1536 (Latest is 12.0.0.1420)
* Veeam Mount Service - v9.5.0.1536 (Latest is 12.0.0.1421)
* Veeam Installer Service - v9.5.0.1536 (I think this may need to be left since it is a managed server)

The reason these were noticed is because we are on Veeam 12, so those services are out-of-date. When we updated our Veeam with the latest patch, this server was not included in the option to remotely upgraded components. So, that lead me to believe they are remnants.

Can they be removed? If so, will it require a restart? If they cannot be remove, how can they be updated?

Hello,
a managed Hyper-V host should have "Veeam Backup Transport", "Veeam Hyper-V Integration" and "Veeam Installer Service" installed.

The other roles look like it has been a repository server at some point in time.

If you think you need to remove it, then you can do it. If something does not work, just go through the managed server / role wizard again and all missing components will be re-installed

Best regards,
Hannes

Thank you for the information. It looks the vPower NFS and Mount Services were installed back in 2018, which is inline with when the previous administrator was "experimenting" with Veeam. It's definitely not a repository, so I'm confident they can be removed.

Do you know if removing vPower NFS and Mount Services will require a restart? Just trying to figure out if I can do it now or wait until the next maintenance window.

If anyone else comes across this, I was able to uninstall vPower NFS and Mount Services without restarting.
