Veeam licensing
Understand that Veeam licensing is per CPU socket on as stated in this link:
http://www.veeam.com/backup-licensing-faq.html
How is Veeam Backup & Replication licensed in regards to source and target hosts?
Veeam Backup & Replication is licensed per CPU socket on VM hosts that are being backed up and/or replicated. A license is required for each occupied motherboard socket as reported by the hypervisor API.
Question:
Does the physical Veeam backup server require a license as well?
Eg:
2 x Hyper V host
1 x Physical Veeam backup server
In the above example, do I need 2 or 3 Veeam license?

Re: Veeam licensing
Only the amount of sockets in the hyper-v host(s) count
Please refer to the FAQ for more info

Q: Are any of the product components licensed separately? Namely Enterprise Manager, backup servers, backup proxy servers, backup repositories, WAN accelerators, tape libraries.
A: No, they are not licensed separately. You can deploy as many of those components as it makes sense for your environment.

Re: Veeam licensing
So the physical backup server that is installed with Veeam does not require a license? Am I right?
I am asking this because Symantec requires a base license for their backup server. I know Veeam and Symantec are different and I just want to make sure whether if Veeam backup server itself requires a base license like Symantec does?

Re: Veeam licensing
No such a thing as a base license with Veeam B&R, only source hosts' sockets are licensed. You can install as many Veeam B&R servers under the same license as you need.
