Hi Everyone,
I am brand new to Veeam, so I hope you can excuse my rookie questions!
We need a web server with a redundant server that can be used with DSN failover. We don't need real time replication, a single daily replication would more than suffice.
Our hosting provider has setup a dedicated server running whm/cpanel over Linux. The dedicated server needs VMware in order to run Veeam (according to our host provider). So the server instance itself is a VMware VM on our dedicated server, with nothing else. The redundancy server is a VM running whm/cpanel over Linux.
Our provider has now advised that the redundant VM needs to remain powered off in order to run automatic replications. If we want it powered on, they will need to "manually run the replication periodically".
Is this true?
If it's just the redundant VM (restoration target) that needs to be powered off during the process, can that not be scheduled automatically. ie everyday at 2:00AM, power down the redundant VM, complete restoration and then power back up.
Thanks for reading - sorry to be so green. I thought I did everything right, went to the pros, told them what I need and let them do their work. Now I'm trying to learn!

Re: Veeam replication capabilities?
Hello Jalen
Welcome to the forum.
Our replication engine requires access to the target HyperVisor.
I see you are running VmWare. Your hosting provider has to setup a VmWare Host as well and then give you access to the VmWare APIs. A VM managed by "whm/cpanel" doesn't fullfill that requirement. You need to have access to the ESXI or vCenter APIs to use our replication jobs.
Without access to the ESXi/vCenter APIs, you may have to check alternatives such Veeam Agent (backup and restore of web file) or simple file sync jobs (not with Veeam).
Please note, Veeam Agent requires VPN connection between your On-Prem backup server and cloud VM.
Best,
Fabian
