Veeam replication cross-version?

Hello,

Is the use of offiste backups also possible across versions? We want to upgrade a Veeam server to Veeam 12 but there is a backup job running on this Veeam server which replicates the backups to another Veeam server. Is this still possible from veeam 11 to veeam 12?

Welcome to the forum.

Are you referring to backup copy jobs with "replication".
I assume you have added the second Veeam server as a backup repository? In that case we install components on that windows server. Both backup server must have the same update level. Meaning you need to update both to be able to run backup copy jobs.

May I ask, why you are using two backup server? A single backup server can manage both windows server regarding repository tasks and other components.

PS: We have replication in our product. But it doesn't copy backups. It replicates virtual machines to another hypervisor host.

Hey sorry for the confusion. We have a Veeam server running a backup job that has been copied and is also running on another Veeam server because in case of a total failure this critical data is still backed up at another location. But to keep this backup process as it is, both Veeam servers must be on the same version?

If you have added the second Veeam server as a windows based repository server to the first backup server, then yes, you must update it too. There are services on each backup/backup repository server which must be running on the same version for both backup servers.
